Races and Rides

The ADCC is now providing support for a range of events across Australia, including road racing, mountain bike racing and sportive events.

Cycling is an approved sport of the Australian Defence Sports Council (ADSC) and this support is twofold;

  • to raise awareness and participation cycling events within Defence.
  • to support members to compete at a higher level at national events

Both these objectives are consistent with the principles of participation in sport as detailed in DI(G) PERS 14-2, ADF Policy on Sport.

The attached (below) Admin Instruction (4/2011) provides details on the support provided for ADCC members. The level of support for each event is detailed in event calendar and includes the following

  • Subsidised entry fees
  • Travel and Accommodation allowances
  • Incidentals

For the most part the club offers subsidised entry fees with travel and accommodation allowances reserved for high profile events

A soft copy of Annex B has also been provided to assist members obtaining permission to attend a support event.

 

 

Nominating for support

To nominate for an event go to the event calendar and find the desired event, then click on the ”nominate” link on the guest menu and complete the nomination form at least one month prior to the event.  If the “nominate” link does not appear next to the event it means that nominations for this event have not opened yet.

You can nominate for as many events as you like and by nominating you are not committing to do the event, you are merely expressing your interest in attending.

Each month the committee will meet to determine which nominations will be supported. Selection will be based on the objectives as stated above. While preference will be given to the members competing at the higher levels, the committee will also endeavor to ensure all members are given the opportunity to attend a supported event.

  • If oversubscribed the committee and the regional rep will determine which nominations will be supported.
  • If the event is undersubscribed naturally all nominations will be accepted and nominations will remain open until the PAX for the event is reached.

Depending on the event, some nominations will be confirmed well in advance to allow members to seek leave and train for the event.

 

Payment of subsidies

Where possible the Assistant Treasurer will pay for any event fees up front for all the nominations using a Defence Purchasing Card. If a member has already paid for the event they may submit a claim reimbursement for the expenses.

 

Post-race report

After the event all members who received support are to complete an online post-race report which will include the claim for reimbursement. This information will be used as part of our CAR submission, so we can justify our funding. Selected reports will also be posted on the club website to highlight some of club’s performances.

The Club Treasurer will process any AC984 forms submitted via the post-race report.

 

 

Note: Support for the events for the FY 12 -13 will be confirmed when funding for FY12-13 is finalised.
